Podcast #200 – Marc Picks His Favorite Episodes of the Last Year to Celebrate the 4 Anniversary of the Podcast
This marks the 4th anniversary of this podcast. I started this podcast in late October of 2016 to support the launch of the 2nd edition of “Repurpose Your Career – A practical guide of the 2nd half of life” which was published in the spring of 2017. I never imagined to be doing this podcast 4 years later and a quarter of a million downloads.
I started 2020 like any other year with a set of guests that I thought would inform and inspire you. Of course, then COVID-19 hit us across the head like a 2 by 4 and I changed focus to topics that I thought you would find helpful in surviving and thriving through this pandemic.
I picked 7 episodes that I will play snippets from and I hope that you will go back and listen to them again and again.
These episodes are as follows:
- Creating a Career Pivot Resume with Thea Kelley #157
- 2nd Chance Entrepreneur in the 2nd half of Life – HouseSitMexico.com #159
- How to Create Your Career Story So That It Makes Sense #167
- Dealing with Stress and Uncertainty with Eliz Greene #170
- “Hole in the Donut” Cultural Blogger – Encore Episode with an Update #174
- How to Pivot Industries Using a Blog and a Podcast #175
- Pivoting a Speaking Career in a Time of Pandemic #185
This episode is sponsored by Career Pivot. Check out the Career Pivot Community. Make sure and pick up my latest book Repurpose Your Career: A Practical Guide for the 2nd Half of Life Third Edition

I published “Creating a Career Pivot Resume with Thea Kelley,” Episode #157, in early January, and I wanted Thea to talk about how to create a resume for people who were changing careers, industry, or any kind of pivot.
Learning how to translate the language of a past career into a new direction is so key. Thea gives us many more examples during the episode. You can find this at careerpivot.com/episode-157 or listen to it below.
The 2nd episode I want to highlight is Episode #159 where I interview Alexandra Gorden in the episode “2nd Chance Entrepreneur in the 2nd half of Life” – HouseSitMexico.com.
You can find this at careerpivot.com/episode-159 or listen to it below.
Let’s move on to when I had Gary O’Neal on in Episode #167, “How to Create Your Career Story So That It Makes Sense.”
Gary gives multiple examples of how people reframed their stories around what the hiring person was looking for and instead of what they always tell people about themselves. This often means leaving parts of your career out of your career story.
You can find this at careerpivot.com/episode-167 or listen to it below.
I am now scheduling interviews for March and COVID-19 has hit us on the head. That is when I was introduced to Eliz Greene who speaks about stress and uncertainty for a living. The title for Episode #170 is “Dealing with Stress and Uncertainty with Eliz Greene.”
She gives so much great advice that I have taken and implemented.
You can find this at careerpivot.com/episode-170 or listen to it below.
This next episode is my favorite episode (#174). I originally recorded it in 2018 and then did an update this year. I called this “Hole in the Donut” Cultural Blogger – Encore Episode with an Update.
I had Barbara back to discuss what she thought travel would look like in the future. There are so many great parts of this episode that I will want you to go back and listen to the whole thing.
You can find this at careerpivot.com/episode-174 or listen to it below.
Next, I have Daniel Elizalde in Episode #175 called, “How to Pivot Industries Using a Blog and a Podcast.” Daniel has brilliantly pivoted his career multiple times and since this recording, he is pivoting again. I will likely have him back.
I originally wrote about Daniel in a blog post, Changing Industries to Smart Grid on how he used a blog to brand himself for the smart grid industry. Next, he used a podcast to make his way into being an executive coach in the world of “The Internet of Things.”
You can find this at careerpivot.com/episode-175 or listen to it below.
The last episode (#185) is my interview with my friend, Thom Singer. I have had Thom on the podcast multiple times in the past. This time the episode was called, “Pivoting a Speaking Career in a Time of Pandemic.”
Thom said he could have crawled up into a little ball and felt sorry for himself but he did not do that.
I wrote about what Thom is doing in my post 7 Best Practices that Empower Your Career and Business.
You can find this at careerpivot.com/episode-185 or listen to it below.
Those are my favorite episodes for the last year.
