The Career Pivot Community is a place for those of us in the 2nd half of life to come together to learn and support each other.
All of us want the freedom to work…
…how we want,
…when we want,
… and at something we love to do.
Sound interesting?
Every 30 to 60 days, the Career Pivot Community brings in a new cohort of approximately ten individuals. This is a paid membership community. If you are interested in learning more, please click on the button below.
The Career Pivot Community Has Been Discontinued to the My Wife’s Illness.
Community Benefits
Accountability
Have you ever told yourself, “Next week I will get started on….” But, when next week comes around, somehow it becomes another next week and, then, another.
This is a community where you discover ways to gain control over your own future. There is an Action Plans forum, along with opportunities to connect with accountability partners and mastermind groups. Each offers a means to set and, more importantly, meet your own goals.
Mastermind Groups
Mastermind groups related to various undertakings (job search, consulting, website development, etc) provide another level of support. You may be wondering what is a mastermind group? Wikipedia gives the definition as:
A mastermind group is a peer-to-peer mentoring concept used to help members solve their problems with input and advice from the other group members. The concept was coined in 1925 by author Napoleon Hill in his book The Law of Success[1] and described in more detail in his 1937 book, Think and Grow Rich.[2] In his books, Hill discussed the idea of the Master Mind, which referred to two or more people coming together in harmony to solve problems.
In the Career Pivot Community, our mastermind groups meet on a virtual platform every week. Sometimes there is a guest speaker. Sometimes one member shares his or her experiences. Other times we conduct an accountability circle. All depends on that particular group’s needs and desires. What remains constant is that we are there to support each other, share resources and offer suggestions and advice.

Community Support
You are not alone in making a change in the direction of your career in the 2nd half of life. The Career Pivot Community enables you to learn from others through a sharing of successes and setbacks. You get the moral support you need to help you persevere through good times and bad.
You don’t have to make the journey alone. We cheer each other on. Commiserate when needed. And, share our stories so that others don’t have to necessarily stumble exactly where we did.
What happens after I sign up for the waiting list?
Almost immediately, you will receive an email with more details about membership levels and the opportunities afforded by joining the Career Pivot Community.
As a new cohort is being formed – which happens approximately every other month – Marc Miller, the community founder, arranges for one-on-one interviews.
On behalf of the community, Marc is seeking individuals who will actively participate, give feedback and direction, and be open to helping others. This is the time to discuss, as well, your own wants and needs regarding participation in this group.
This is a growing and evolving community, so by joining now, you have an opportunity to help establish the focus and topics for additional mastermind groups, training modules, and future channels for communicating and supporting each other.
Everyone is contacted in the waiting list order. So signing up now is the first step.
What Does It Cost?
The pricing is simple, it is $1 for the first month and $39 per month afterward. You can leave at any time. You have one month to determine if this is right for you.
Why $39 per month? I wanted it to price it high enough that if you joined you would participate. Many online communities have a lot of members who do not participate, i.e. they are stalkers. The value of this community comes from belonging to a community of like-minded people who help one another.
I also did not want to price it such that it is a financial burden.
Make sense?
The Marc Miller Story….
Do You Dream of Having a Work-Life that You Look Forward to Every Day?
I was raised to be an employee and to go to work for a father-like employer who would take care of me. After 30 or 40 years, I would be able to ride off into the sunset to a happy retirement. A little more than halfway there – they moved my cheese.
Work was never supposed to be for fun. Rather, it allowed me to pay the mortgage, put food on the table and take care of my family. The fun was to come in my retirement.
Does this sound familiar?
My Journey
After graduating from Northwestern University with a Computer Science degree in 1978, I went to work for a father-like company, IBM. I then spent 22 years wandering along my chosen career path, changing jobs every few years. That gave me experience in a lot of different positions and industries. I was a jack-of-all-trades and an expert in none.
In 1999, IBM converted my retirement plan into a cash balance plan and then converted me back to a pension. That broke the bond of trust and I planned my exit. I left for a technology startup, Agere Inc. that was being acquired by Lucent. It was not a risky move though it felt scary leaving IBM after 22 years. I still was working for a safe, father-like company that I thought would take care of me.
It took a moment of harsh reality, a near-fatal bicycle accident in 2002, to propel me into a true change of course. This point of clarity – a head-on collision with a Toyota automobile (where our combined speeds exceeded 50 miles per hour) – impacted everything.
Leaving behind the big business world, I tried some new directions, teaching Algebra in an inner-city high school and, later, creating a corporate development program for a local non-profit.
After three years at yet another tech startup, I left that venture and founded Career Pivot to help those in the 2nd half of life make meaningful career decisions.
Career Pivot Was Born
CareerPivot.com was launched in February of 2012. When I started researching this concept the previous year, I discovered virtually no one was addressing the needs of baby boomers and their careers. The assumption appeared to be that we were all going to ride off into the sunset and retire in just a few years. Well… as we all know, that is not happening.
Since 2012, Career Pivot has grown and expanded exponentially. I have developed over 500 blog posts, a weekly podcast with more than 95 episodes, a brand-new edition of my book, Repurpose Your Career, countless resources, and – my newest brainchild – the Career Pivot Community where you find that you are not alone.
