Baby Boomers and Twitter? – How about a Twitter chat! It is safe!

Baby Boomers and Twitter

Baby Boomers are the least represented generation on Twitter.  Maybe it because we do not talk in 140 character phrases. I have to admit it has taken me a while to get with Twitter.

Instead of using Twitter let me introduce you to a Twitter Chat.  Think of a Twitter Chat as a chat room. What prompted me to write about this topic was an a blog post called “Top 7 Twitter Chats for Recruiters“.   This includes:

  • #TCHAT  (WEEKLY) WEDNESDAY 7-8 PM ET This is a great chat that tackles the intersection of Talent + Culture. Simply put, #TChat is all about the world of work, and it’s awesome!  #TChat is run by @meghanmbiro and @kevinwgrossman
  • #TALENTNET  (WEEKLY) TUESDAY 7-8 PM ET #TalentNet Live is a hashtag chat and radio talk show for recruiters and HR Professionals.  This chat is hosted by @Fishdogs, @TheOneCrystal, @mattcharney, and @mverver.
  • #JOBHUNTCHAT  (WEEKLY) MONDAY 10-11 PM ET #JobHuntChat was the first ever chat that focuses solely on the job search and provides a forum for job seekers, Recruiters, and HR Professionals to connect.  #JobHuntChat is run by @CornOnTheJob, @Blogging4Jobs, @JRock96, and @GirlMeetsGeek.
  • #HRTECHCHAT  (WEEKLY) WEDNESDAY 4-5 PM ET #HRTechChat focuses on human resource technology and its impact on business.  Co-Hosts @brentskinner and @meghanmbiro run the show!
  • #HFCHAT  (WEEKLY) FRIDAY 12-1 PM ET Chat for job seekers and career experts. A great place to connect with both recruiters and job seekers.   #HFChat is part of the amazing #HireFriday community that has been grown by @HRMargo.
  • #LINKEDINCHAT (WEEKLY) TUESDAY 8-9 PM ET Just like it sounds, #LinkedinChat is a place for folks to come and learn how to use Linkedin better.  This chat is run by @linkedinexpert and @martinehunter. I am on this Tweetchat every Tuesday evening!
  • #MPACECHAT  (MONTHLY) FIRST FRIDAY OF THE MONTH 1-2 PM ET This chat is run by @MPACENews and is focused on helping college students transition into the working world.  Great for corporate recruiters or HR Professionals who spend time on their company college recruitment program

I am going to throw in an eighth Twitter Chat:

  • #BLOGCHAT (WEEKLY) SUNDAY 9-10 PM ET

This chat is run by @MattCollier and is focused on the world of blogging.

I learn a tremendous amount from the Twitter Chats that I attend.  Do I participate?  Sometimes.  Do I stalk and listen?  YES! If there was a room full of experts and you had the opportunity to be a fly on the wall, would you listen?  Heck yes!

Rather than explain how a Twitter Chat works I am just going to show you using a website called TweetChat.com.

Go ahead and give it a try.  You do not even need a Twitter account to listen in. Check out these various Twitter Chats.

It is safe and no one will ever know you are using Twitter!

  1. Hi Marc,

I found your post via the NU group on Linkedin. Great article! We specialize in helping companies and people plan, promote, host and analyze Twitter chats and ‘parties.’ They are safe just as long as you do not tweet any personal info (even emails, phone #’s, etc.) They’re really catching on and are a great way for people to learn something new, exchange info, and network.

#HRTECHCHAT is weekly on Fridays, 2:00pm ET. Thanks for the list!
